7 Things To Know Before Renting A One Way Truck
By John Mancini, Tue Dec 6th

If you are about to buy a house that is a long distance away, you may have wondered the best way to get all of your stuffthere. One of the best ways is to use one way truck rentals, this will allow you to rent a truck where you live, load it upand drive to where you are moving to. You then return the truckto the branch of the rental company that is closest to the newhouse.

1- Call around to rental companies that deal in truck rentals. You will need to know if they have any one way truck rentalsavailable for the dates and destinations that you will requirethem. Be sure to ask about prices, mileage limits and costs andany extra fees associated with renting a one way vehicle.

2- The next step that needs to be completed before you canactually start moving your belongings is to figure out how muchtruck space you will actually need. You do not want to be caughtin a situation where you don't have enough room on the truck foreverything you want to take with you. However, you don't wanttoo much space; this will cost more and allow your possessionsto be damaged during transport. To decide on the size truck youwill need, ask the rental company for their advice, they willhave formulas that determine the size truck needed for the job.

3- Before you rent the truck, be sure to check it out forquality. Most rental companies pride themselves on havingdependable transportation for rent; however, it will be in yourbest interest to check things like the door latches, locks andtires. This could only save you headaches later down the road.

4- Call your insurance agent to inquire whether your personalauto policy covers the use of rental trucks and vans for thispurpose. While most insurance companies will cover the use of arental car, most don't normally cover the use of a deliveryvehicle. If your policy does not cover the rental truck, youwill need to purchase the insurance policy that is offered bythe rental company.

5- Given your need for the use of a one way truck rental, it iswise to ask about drop off destinations that are closest towhere you will be arriving. Ask about pick up service for thetruck, if this is available in the area you will be moving to,it could save you valuable time upon your arrival.

6- If you are moving at the end or at the beginning of a month,be sure to reserve your truck well in advance of the actualmoving date. These times are the busiest for rental companiesand if you wait to request a truck, they may not have anyavailable for you.

7- Most rental companies will require that you reserve yourvehicle with a credit or debit card. They will also, most likelyrequire that you be at least 25 years old to rent a truck. Ifeither of these items will be an issue for you, you will need tohave an older relative or friend rent the truck for you.
